The patented Confirm vision detection system can be integrated into packaging lines by being installed over existing conveyors. It typically is mounted inline after the filler. It is designed to perform several inspection functions and reject packages that do not meet specifications before they are loaded into secondary packaging such as cartons, cases, trays or shrink bundles.
Offers soft reject system
Using six Cognex cameras to ensure positive reads at any angle, the Confirm verifies proper labeling and matching decoration of branded products at speeds up to 600 units per minute.
First, it measures readability of applied codes and then verifies package contents by comparing the UPC code on the container with a variety of markings on the lidding, such as test, graphics or other types of codes. It then employs a "soft reject" mechanism to gently remove the defective product in a straight-line conveyor section while "diverting" good product onward, all done seamlessly without slowing production.
The nondestructive soft reject helps prevent messy spills when, as is typically done, defective products are diverted at high speeds.
The Confirm vision system also is able to identify flaws in foil lids or overcap sealed containers, such as pinholes, punctures and improper seals, and incompletely seated or cross-threaded caps. It then removes the damaged packaging.
This process eliminates costly rework or returns, providing further justification for installing such a system.
