Shell Chemical and Dow Chemical Are Set to Raise US IPA Prices by 10 Cents/Lb

Shell Chemical and Dow Chemical plan to implement 10-cent increases in their off-list US prices for isopropyl alcohol in mid-January, according to notices sent to customers Wednesday and obtained by Platts Thursday.

The Shell price hike will be effective January 17, or as contracts allow, while the Dow increase comes into effect January 15, or as contracts permit, the companies said.

The Shell and Dow announcements follow similar 10-cent IPA price increases in mid-January for ExxonMobil Chemical and Haltermann. LyondellBasell will raise its IPA prices by seven cents in mid-January.

Shell and Dow said the price rises were due to higher propylene feedstock costs.

US IPA was last assessed by Platts at 61-62 cents/lb FOB US Gulf on December 18. Platts will next assess US IPA prices on January 8.
