The ITC Ruling Will Decide Whether Mexican Exports Cause Injury to The Us Market

In response to the US DOC’s final determinations in the antidumping/countervailing duty case against rebar imports from Mexico, Raúl Gutiérrez Muguerza, director of Deacero, said he is confident that the defense of this case, hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Economy, will bear fruit in the US International Trade Commission on September 15.

The ITC ruling will decide whether Mexican exports cause injury to the US market—if not, the DOC margins will be eliminated.

Gutiérrez explained that the hearing before the ITC will be attended by representatives of the Mexican steel industry and the representative of the Ministry of Economy in Washington DC, Ken Smith.

"As an industry we are confident that it will reverse because it would be illogical to damage the American industry when Mexican exports of steel rod represent only 4 percent of the market."

The DOC reported that in 2013, US imports of rebar from Mexico were valued at a total of $182.1 million.
