API Has Secured a Contract From The Epower Engine Systems

Axion Power International (API) has secured a contract from the ePower Engine Systems to supply batteries and energy storage systems that will be used in production of the hybrid vehicles.

As part of the deal, the company will supply carbon PbC batteries and energy management systems that will be used to convert ten Class 8 trucks from standard internal combustion engines to series diesel electric hybrid drive train systems with ePower's proprietary technology.

The contract is an extension of the previous agreement made by the companies and further validates the performance of the PbC batteries in this hybrid application.

Axion chairman and CEO Thomas Granville said the heavy trucking industry is a huge and unserved market when it comes to improving miles per gallon of diesel fuel at affordable cost.

"ePower testing to date, with PbC batteries, indicates significant savings immediately, with dramatic savings potential going forward," Granville added.

ePower Chief Technology Officer Jay Bowman said, "We are very close to concluding our long term supply agreement with Axion and we look forward to successfully marketing our product with them in the years to come."
