Blue Bell Creameries Close Down Operations at Oklahoma Ice Cream Plant

US ice-cream manufacturer Blue Bell Creameries has suspended operations at its Oklahoma ice cream plant over possible Listeriosis contamination.

Recently, Blue Bell recalled three 3 oz. institutional/food service ice cream cups of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla with tab lids due to the potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.

Blue Bell said in a statement that the company is taking this step out of caution to ensure everything possible is being done to provide consumers with safe products.

Located in Broken Arrow, this Blue Bell facility will undertake careful and complete examination to determine the exact cause of the contamination.

The other plants of ice-cream manufacturer will continue operation and supply products to retail stores and institutional customers, the company stated.

Blue Bell's products were recalled after the Kansas Department of Health & Environment reported one positive test for Listeria monocytogenes on a chocolate institutional/food service cup.

Meanwhile, US health officials have warned consumers against eating any products from a Blue Bell Creameries' Oklahoma ice cream plant, Reuters reported.

Kansas health officials earlier said that three people died between January 2014 and January 2015 after being diagnosed of Listeriosis at a hospital where Blue Bell products were served.
