Unity Opto Technology predicts that it will have a 70%increase in revenue during the second quarter and its shipments of LED backlights will be able to support 20 million TV sets in 2012,according company chairman CH Wu.
Wu said strong orders for LED lighting and LED backlights for TVs and tablet PCs have been boosting the company's revenues in the second quarter.Unity reported consolidated revenues of NT$590 million(US$19.7 million)for May,a 21%growth on month,and predicts that it will see double-digit growth next month as well.
Wu also said that Unity has been cooperating more with Japanese and Korean LCD supply chains,and it has also entered the panel supply chain in China.Wu said the company is expected to take 15-20%the LED TV backlights market in 2012.
With the release of new ultrabook models in the third quarter,LED backlight orders from the segment are expected to increase even more throughout the fourth quarter,which is usually considered a slow period,added Wu.
The chairman estimates that its LED light bulb shipments in 2012 will be flat compared to 2011.
