Ford has announced to expand its recall of vehicles related to Takata driver-side airbag inflators to 502,489 vehicles.

This recall includes 2005-2008 Ford Mustang vehicles built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant between 2004 and 2007 and 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles that were built at the company's Wixom Assembly Plant between 2005 and 2006.

Ford also highlighted that the latest recall was made on the request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and has brought the total number of Ford vehicles recalled due to Takata airbag inflators to approximately 538,977 units.

Around 462,911 vehicles in the US and nearly 27,516 units in Canada along with 7,578 in Mexico are affected by the latest recall.

The company said that it is aware of one accident that led to an injury due to the faulty airbag.

Ford said that it has informed the dealers, and the replacement of the airbags will be made for free.
