Nissan will debut its concept of Micromobility at the 2016 New York International Auto Show.

The new micromobility concept from Nissan is aimed at addressing the personal mobility challenges that people face or will be facing in the near future in crowded urban environments.

Nissan said that the micromobility concept vehicle is fully electric and will easily fit between a small motorcycle and a full-size vehicle.

The new mobility concept is powered by a 61kWh Lithium Ion battery which is connected to a 17hp electric motor. The overall weight of the vehicle is 1045 pounds and it has a range of 40 miles.

It will take about 3.5 hours to charge and can run at a top speed of about 25mph. For safety, the concept mobility is fitted with driver supplemental air bag, a 4-point front seat belt and a 3-point rear set belt.

Nissan Future Lab director Rachel Nguyen said: "As large cities continue to grow into megacities globally, we need to better understand how transportation is changing and anticipate what transportation needs will look like in the future."

"With the fast-paced growth of smart technologies and the emergence of the sharing economy, we are studying how this size and package of electric vehicle fits in real life customer situations."

Nissan Future Lab was set up in 2014 as an extension of Nissan's global advanced planning group. The lab was set up look into opportunities and potential issues for business today and into the future.

The lab has looked beyond products and examines the future of mobility from a wider perspective.

The company says that many new developments and aspects in today's automotive sector such as electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, connected vehicles and trends like ride sharing.

Nguyen added: "Urbanization and the growth of megacities - particularly in developing countries - is the biggest challenge facing the automotive industry."

"It's mind boggling to think there's only about 10 megacities now and in 20 years there will be 30. Mobility is a major driving force central to how these megacities will develop."
