The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China said that BMW Brilliance Automotive will recall 143,215 5-series cars in China over power steering defects, in September 2013.
All these cars were manufactured by BMW Brilliance Automotive, between August 2009 and August 2012 and belonging to the 2010, 2011, and 2012 model years.
BMW Brilliance Automotive, is a 50-50 joint venture between Brilliance China Automotive Holdings and BMW and the company will replace defective plugs on the vehicles that could cause safety hazards.
This recall follows the Chinese government's rejection of BMW's RMB9.2bn ($1.5bn) plant expansion scheme in the northern city of Shenyang in July 2013.
According to reports, reasons behind this rejection are inadequate wastewater analysis and plant's failure to meet the government's anti-pollution targets.
