Xl Hybrids Expanded Its Product Portfolio

US-based XL Hybrids, a low-cost hybrid electric powertrain developer for class 1 to 3 commercial fleet vehicles, has expanded its product portfolio with the launch of a new hybrid electric powertrain technology for Ford E-Series vans.

The new technology will be available as a retrofit in the Ford's 2013 model year E-150 and E-250 cargo van and passenger wagon models, while the company plans to use the technology in older models also.

XL Hybrids business development vice president and co-founder Justin Ashton said that the company offers return on investments and emissions reductions to more than 75% of light duty van fleet buyers with the hybrid powertrain for the Ford E-Series.

"By working with top-tier upfitters for installation, XL Hybrids has created a low-cost, seamless ship-through option for fleets without the hurdles of buying a completely unproven chassis or having a tether to a recharging or alt-fuel filling station," Ashton added.

The company will showcase an E-Series van with its hybrid powertrain technology at the 2013 NTEA Work Truck Show to be held at Indianapolis in the US, between 05-08 March.

Recently, XL hybrids had signed the installation partnership and distribution agreement with the Leggett & Platt commercial vehicle products (CVP), under which the powertrain will be assembled in the van.
