Drayson Racing Has Signed an Agreement with Qualcomm

UK-based Drayson Racing Technologies (DRT), the low-carbon motorsport and electric vehicle R&D business, has signed a wireless electric vehicle charging (WEVC) licence agreement with Qualcomm Incorporated in order to include Qualcomm Halo WEVC technology in its products.

Qualcomm Halo WEVC technology allows the wireless charging of vehicles through a pad in parking space. This technology is expected to drastically improve EV infrastructure and uptake. In addition, novel dynamic wireless charge-on-the-move systems are also being developed.

Under the license agreement, DRT will be able to make and supply products including Qualcomm Halo WEVC technology to customers in the motorsport and automotive sectors.

The license agreement builds upon DRT'S role as an Official WEVC Performance Motorsport Development Partner for Qualcomm Halo technology in high performance motorsport.

DRT has been evaluating a specially developed 20kW, high power Qualcomm Halo wireless charging system on the Drayson B12/69EV prototype electric racing car. Currently, DRT is developing systems for use on road going EVs as well as for electric racing cars that will participate in the forthcoming FIA Formula E Championship.

DRT and Qualcomm Europe have been testing the Qualcomm Halo WEVC system.

Drayson Racing Technologies founder and CEO Lord Drayson said that the company is delighted to announce this further development in its relationship with Qualcomm, a global leader in wireless technologies.

"Qualcomm's commitment to innovation makes it a perfect fit for Drayson Racing Technologies and our shared commitment to sustainable technology development through motorsport competition," Drayson added.

Drayson Racing Technologies, based in Oxford, is involved in the development of works to develop key R&D solutions, components and drivetrains for the next generation of electric vehicles.
