Nissan's All New 5th-Generation Serena to Go on Sale Next Month

Nissan Motor has introduced driver-assist features that allow its new Serena minivan to manage highway driving on its own.

More than 1.5 million Serenas have been sold since it first went on sale in 1991.

The new Serena comes equipped with advanced features including ProPILOT autonomous drive technology, which the company claims can automatically control the accelerator, brakes and steering when driving on the highway, in both heavy and flowing traffic.

It is powered by S-Hybrid, a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder gasoline engine which pumps out 145 hp at 6400 rpm and produces a torque of 179Nm at 4800 rpm. It can accelerate from 0-100km in 15 seconds and has a top speed of 165km/hr.

Nissan claims that the fuel efficiency for the new Serena is better in comparison with older models. The present steering system will allow for better response than before.

With variable power system in place, it offers lighter turning effort a low speeds and more stable feel at highway speeds.

Nissan says that the all new Serena is equipped with latest in safety technology which include emergency braking system, Lane Departure Warning, Around View Monitor and Smart Rearview Mirror.

It also features Intelligent Park Assist, an easy-to-use automatic parking system that was first introduced in X-TRAIL. The new system with improved accuracy, can automatically control accelerator, brakes and steering when driving on highway in both heavy and flowing traffic.

Nissan also says that the new Serena has been designed as a vehicle which can cater to wide spectrum of users who range between people with families, but even for thrill-seeking weekend warriors.

The dual rear doors can be opened very easily in two different ways with an Intelligent Key and sliding the foot under the door without having to let go of whatever is being carried, whether shopping bags or surfing board.

Also, zero gravity seats in the first and second row, which have been well received in Teana sedan have been introduced in the new Serena. Nissan says that third row seats have also been designed for maximum comfort to help reduce fatigue during long trips.
