Jaguar and Altran Creates Open Source Software for Intelligent Vehicles

British automaker Jaguar Land Rover is teaming up with engineering consulting company Altran to develop an open-source software platform for intelligent vehicles.

The platform is expected to blend industrial and engineering techniques with the processes, methods and tools used in the consumer electronics industry, which is likely to transform Electrical and Electronic (E/E) automotive architectures.

Jaguar with its knowledge in premium automotive sector and Altran's expertise in advanced software architectures is expected to result in creation of technology for different vehicles and machines.

The product is also expected to be used on medical, rail, industrial automation and aerospace sectors.

Altran Europe senior executive vice-president Cyril Roger said: "Jaguar Land Rover and Altran have been collaborating for the past five years on a number of projects and this partnership is theformalization of the technical and commercial perspective both companies have on this key technical domain.

"It reinforces Altran's new strategic direction in accelerating innovation, and is enabling its partners to do the same.

"The company is moving towards a whole new model of co-innovation to bring more value, assets and expertise across industries to its customers."

The technology is expected to make way for the creation of an ecosystem of new applications for the automotive sector.
