Open a New Facility That Assembles Ssangyong Vehicles Following a Renovation Project

Sri Lanka based car manufacturer Micro Cars has opened a new facility that assembles SsangYong vehicles following a renovation project on the site.

Located in the Board of Investment export processing zone, approximately 67km away from capital city Colombo, newly built assembly line can assemble SUV and compact sedan with production capacity of 14,600 units per year.

To celebrate opening of the plant, Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, the president of Sri Lanka visited the factory as a chief guest with few ministers. During the visit, he also mentioned that the Sri Lankan government will give the fullest support to the local automobile assembly industry.

As a sole local assembler in Sri Lanka, Micro Cars has recently launched Korando, Actyon Sports, Rexton and the Stavic and expects that the new manufacturing facility will positively affect to SsangYong sales in Sri Lanka.

Mr. Lawrence Perera, CEO of SsangYong Micro Cars said, "I believe that Micro Cars can increase SsangYong Motor's share in the Sri Lankan market with this new facility. Also, we will strive to improve quality of the products and look forward to the successful launching of X100, the new type of SUV, by 2015 in Sri Lanka."
