Shadow Sale of 243, 236 Units in May 2014

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) has sold 243,236 units, an increase of 12.6% for the month of May 2014 on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis.

The sales increased 17% from year-ago month based on a raw-volume basis, unadjusted for 27 selling days in May 2014, against 26 selling days in May 2013.

Toyota division group vice president and general manager Bill Fay said: "Industry sales in May soared as consumer confidence improved and demand for new vehicles continued to strengthen. Toyota had its best month in six years led by strong Camry, Corolla and Hybrid sales."

Toyota division witnessed 12.2% year-on-year increase in May 2014 with the sales of 216,315 units, while volume-wise, the sales increased 16.5%.

All-new Corolla sales grew 30.8% highest monthly increase since August 2009 and Lexus reported May sales of 26,921 units, a 16.6% increase on a DSR basis.

Lexus group vice president and general manager Jeff Bracken said: "The luxury vehicle market has been outperforming the overall industry so far this year and that continued in May. Lexus results during the month were up 21 percent as sales of our newest models, the IS and GX, more than doubled, and our core models, the ES and RX, also showed solid gains."

Lexus luxury utility vehicles saw a 20.2% increase in sales along with triple-digit gain for seventh consecutive month for sales of Lexus GX.

Meanwhile, Camry sales were up over 26%, accounting to sales of up to 50,000 units, while Toyota division trucks increased by 11% during May 2014.
