Austria's SML Develops New Stretch Film Line to Boost Productivity and Flexibility

Austria based extrusion equipment supplier SML Maschinengesellschaft has developed bigger, faster and smarter stretch film line for hand, machine and jumbo roll production.

The new 4m-wide stretch film line, PowerCast, features a 13-layer feedblock and eight extruders including edge encapsulation to provide maximum throughputs of 3,000 kg/h.

SML said that the new stretch film combines low energy consumption with maximum production flexibility on a top performance level.

Designed to boost productivity and flexibility, the new line will be showcased by the firm at the K 2016 event scheduled to be held from 19 to 26 October in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The company also said that a second PowerCast stretch film line featuring 55-layer Cloeren nano feedblock system will be installed at its headquarters in Lenzing, Austria.

The second stretch film line, which will have an identical extruder configuration to that of the new line, is designed to serve the scientific comparison of the film qualities achievable by using nano-layers.

At the K show, SML will also display its FlexPack demonstration line, including the DoubleCoat process.

The DoubleCoat process combines extrusion coating with hot melt lamination.

Recent test runs of DoubleCoat process have revealed that monolithic, breathable coatings benefit from the new production method with respect to weight, elasticity, water-tightness and breathability.

Prior to the K show, SML will undertake further test runs of the DoubleCoat process at its headquarters.

SML develops cast film lines, sheet lines, coating lines as well as on spinning lines for multifilaments.
