Bosch's Autonomous Driving to Be Equipped with Tomtom's HD Maps

Bosch and TomTom to jointly demonstrate autonomous driving technology, with Bosch's demo vehicle being equipped with TomTom's HD Maps and RoadDNA technology at Australian F1 Grand Prix circuit at Albert Park.

TomTom HD Map and RoadDNA are two revolutionary, highly accurate digital map based products helping automated vehicles precisely locate themselves on the road and plan manoeuvres, even when traveling at high speeds.

TomTom Maps Product Management vice president Pieter Gillegot-Vergauwen said: “With the trend toward autonomous driving quickly becoming a reality, TomTom is excited to collaborate with Bosch to demonstrate the precision of our map products.

“We hope that Bosch’s demo vehicle, equipped with TomTom’s HD Map and RoadDNA, will lead to further acceleration of the development of autonomous vehicles and greater confidence in the safety, efficiency, and comfort these vehicles will deliver.”

Mid 2015, TomTom and Bosch announced that it would partner on innovative mapping technology for autonomous driving.

Under this agreement, TomTom is designing the necessary maps, while Bosch, on the basis of its systems engineering work, is defining the specifications these maps have to meet.

Launched commercially in 2015, TomTom’s HD Map and RoadDNA coverage recently reached 206,203 kilometres globally, including:

Motorways in France (32,956 km);

Autobahn network in Germany (27,631 km);

Interstates in 30 U.S. states (104,690 km);

Interstates and highways in three U.S. states (40,926 km).
