UK based manufacturer of coding, marking and labeling equipment Domino Printing Sciences has broken ground on a new factory in Changshu, China aimed to increase business opportunities across the Asia Pacific region.

The new factory, named Domino Printing Technology (Changshu), is located in the Changshu Economic & Technological Development Zone and covers an area of 26,667m2.

Estimated to cost approximately £19m ($24.5m), the factory will comprise three production lines for ink production, ink jet printer assembly testing, as well as Thermal Transfer Overprinting (TTO) assembly testing.

Domino Printing is also planning to establish a series of departments for research and development, quality control and logistics.

The plant is expected to contribute to the company’s plan to have an annual output of 14,000 labelling devices and 2,500 tons of ink.

Domino Printing Technology (Chang Shu) general manager Johnny Tan said: “Domino’s development strategy is to strengthen its relationships with its customers, and the regional manufacturing base is a key part of this strategy.

“China is one of Domino’s biggest regional markets. In order to support the company’s development strategy, we chose Changshu, which is close to our Shanghai headquarters.

The company expects the new factory to improve the efficiency of productions and logistics, thus serving the Asia Pacific Region more effectively.

Domino Printing Sciences group operations director Rachel Hurst said: “With the launch of the new factory in Changshu, we will be able to introduce new products to the Chinese market, while also providing the high level of service that has become synonymous with the Domino brand.”

In May, Domino Printing Sciences has introduced a new K600i B2 cut sheet-fed ink jet digital printing solution at Drupa 2016 held in Düsseldorf of Germany.

The K600i is a modular and scalable system, which is available with seven print width formats.

Domino Printing Sciences has 10 production bases throughout Asia, Europe and the US.
