Volvo Cars Posted a 2.3 Per Cent Increase in Retail Sales for The Month of April

Volvo Cars posted a 2.3 per cent increase in retail sales for the month of April with growth in all major regions. Deliveries of the new Volvo XC90 have just begun and while no customers have yet had the chance to try out the new car, there are already close to 30,000 pre-orders from across the world.

Torslanda plant in Gothenburg, Sweden has just started up a third production shift to meet customer demand for the new XC90.

Sales in Western Europe grew by 8.7 per cent boosted by strong demand for the Volvo XC60 and the V40. Sweden reported a 7.4 per cent increase to a total of 6,017 cars which means a continued strong position with a nearly 20 per cent market share.

Volvo Cars' largest market is China where retail sales were up by 1.8 per cent in April with the Volvo XC60 as the best-selling model. Sales in the USA were flat with 4,636 retail deliveries where the XC60 and S60 were the top sellers.

"We have a continued positive momentum already before we start deliveries of the new XC90, so we are on track for another good year at Volvo Cars," said Alain Visser, Senior Vice President Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Cars. "More than half of this year's total volume of the new XC90 has already been sold and our dealerships are now preparing for open doors to show the new car to customers".
