Continental Has Secured a Contract to Supply Electric Powertrain for The New Pure EV

Automotive supplier Continental has secured a contract to supply electric powertrain for the new pure electric vehicle (EV) Renault Zoe.

The vehicle will be powered by the synchronous electric motor from Continental that generates an output of 43kW (59hp) and 220Nm of torque, while offering a peak power of 65kW (88hp).

According to the company, the motor uses copper coils in the stator and rotor that allow it to be used as motor as well as a generator for charging the battery while driving or a transformer that charges the batteries through the mains.

Continental Hybrid HEV Business Unit head Xavier Pujol said, "We are delighted that with the help of our extensive expertise we have been able to make an important contribution to this pioneering project."

The power density of the powertrain has been claimed to be increased, along with the overall system efficiency that helps the EV to offer a travel range of 210km.

Similarly to the Renault Kangoo ZE and Fluence ZE, the powertrain components including the drive motor, the power electronics and the hardware for the electric vehicle controller will be delivered by the automotive supplier.

Additionally, Continental will supply the airbag control unit, side- and up-front sensors, the wheel speed sensors, the radio and the keyless access and driver authorization system to the manufacturer.
