Maple Leaf Foods Recalls Uninspected Boneless Pork Shoulders

Canada-based food processing company Maple Leaf Foods has recalled around 4,030 pounds of boneless pork shoulders that skipped the inspection at the US point of entry for inspection.

Without inspection, the products cannot be assured to be fully safe for consumption. The company imported Boneless Pork Shoulder Boston Butt items on 31 October 2015 but had to initiate a recall as they had not passed through the inspection process.

The recalled products carry establishment number of "007" which is present inside the Canada's inspection mark. The items were shipped to retail stores in California.

The discovery came forth on 3 November during a routine US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) checkups of imported products.

The import inspector found that while three lots had been presented to him and passed inspection, a fourth lot on a different certificate had not been presented and entered the US without inspection.

So far, no reports of illnesses have emerged with respect to the products in question. However, consumers who have purchased these products have been advised not to consume them and to either discard them or return at the place of purchase.
