Baobab Foods Opens New Production Facility in Missouri

Washington-based superfoods manufacturer Baobab Foods has opened a new production facility in Washington City in Missouri to expand the company’s offerings of BaoBites Superfruit Snacks.

The company has entered into a joint venture with Beyond Ingredients to produce BaoBites Superfruit Snacks at the new facility.

The new facility will also see the consolidation of functional ingredients since they are easily integrated into several food offerings such as food formulations, including cereals and granolas, trail mixes, nutrition bars, baking mixes, as stand-alone fruit snacks, or as a base for panned chocolate or yogurt coatings.

Equipped with technologically advanced mechanisms, the new production facility intends to aid food formulators in incorporating on-trend functional ingredients such as probiotics for digestive health, plant-based proteins for improved muscle tone, electrolytes for natural hydration and more.

The facility has also another feature which facilitates the monitoring of water activity in accordance with the application, thus boosting presence of nutrients and flavor in several food products.

Baobab Foods general manager Stephan Broburg said: "Although the concept of BaoBites was completely new to the industry a few years ago, the reception has been tremendous, and we've been working closely with our current partners to understand how this novel ingredient can provide increased benefits to the end consumer.

"Our new facility is unlike any other, as it allows us to easily customize the water activity, flavors and other nutritional ingredients in each bite, so the opportunities for food formulators are endless. We're eager to invite our current partners and connect with new ones to explore the opportunities BaoBites can bring to their R&D and innovation pipelines."

Apart from the present three flavours, BaoBites Superfruit Snacks will also be available in nine new flavors namely Meyer Lemon, Tart Cherry, Blueberry, Raspberry, Strawberry, Mango, Sweet Potato, Raspberry Lemonade and Carrot Mango.

BaoBites Superfruit Snacks are made using simple ingredients such as wild-harvested organic baobab fruit powder, real fruit concentrates and pectin. The product claims to be vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO and cholesterol and allergens-free with the exclusion of dairy, eggs, nuts, wheat and soy.

Recently, Baobab Foods launched GFSI Certified Organic Moringa Leaf Powders for wholesale and industrial food formulators. The nutritional powder claims to blend easily with proteins, greens, or fruit powders for nutritional powder mixes and can be added to smoothie bases, baked goods, nutrition bars, granola clusters, cereals and more.
