Murata Manufacturing Is Installing a 1.6MW Solar Power Array at Its Plant

Electronic device producer, Murata Manufacturing is installing a 1.6MW solar power array at its subsidiary Tokyo Denpa’s (TEW) Gunma Plant.

The factory, in the Gunma Prefecture, Japan, manufactures automobile parts.

Construction began in December and completion is expected by March 2014. Sharp Corporation will provide 6,700 panels.

Murata said the 1.6MW solar generation will contribute to the region’s renewable energy commitments and stabilise energy supply for the Gunma plant.

The installation will be the largest electricity generation project undertaken by Murata once complete.

Power will be sold to Tokyo Electric Power Company and other power companies through Japan’s Feed-in-Tariff.

Murata has also said cooperation with local authorities and schools to use the system as a tool for environmental studies, is under way.

Murata also has a 50kW solar system at its headquarters in Kyoto, 1MW at its Yasu Division in Shiga, and 1MW at its Shenzhen Murata Technology facility in Shenzhen City. The new Gunma Plant installation will take Murata’s total installed solar to 3.6MW.

Murata Manufacturing announced the plans to commemorate and welcome TEW joining Murata. TEW became part of the group on 1 August 2013.
