LG Plans to Sell 40 Million Smartphone in 2013, up by 52%

LG Electronics Mobile Communications department heads Park Jong-seok, said on the eve of the 2013 Mobile World Congress (MWC), as part of the out of basic mobile phone strategy, the company plans to sell 40 million smartphone in 2013. Last year, LG’s market share was eroded by Huawei and ZTE.

To achieve the sales target, LG's smartphone shipments will grow by 52%. LG smartphone sales in 2012 were 26.3 million units and 20.2 million units in 2011.

According to International Data Corporation IDC statistics, LG mobile phones sales decreased much in the past two years because it didn’t have advantages over Huawei. In the fourth quarter of 2012, Huawei replaced LG to become the world's fifth largest mobile phone manufacturer.
