Netherlands Reports Lowest National Average CO2 Emission From New Cars of 109.1 G/Km

Netherlands has been ranked first among European countries with lowest CO2 emissions from new cars during 2013, a report from European Federation for Transport and Environment revealed.

According to the report, Netherlands reported a lowest national average CO2 emission from new cars of 109.1 g/km and it was the first country to achieve a national average below 110 g/km.

The study was primarily focused on average new car emissions among the member countries and analysed the effectiveness of their taxation policies in encouraging the purchase of lower carbon cars.

Along with the Netherlands, countries such as Greece, Portugal, Denmark and France also topped in the list.

The highest CO2 emissions from new cars were reported in countries including Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Sweden, Finland, and Austria and these countries said to have the weakest national tax policies.

The study said that countries with low average emissions typically have initial registration taxes and company car taxes that are steeply differentiated by CO2.
