Packaging Joins Forces with Nativeenergy

Folding cartons designer and manufacturer Curtis Packaging has offset the projected greenhouse gas emissions from its operations in 2013 by helping to support a NativeEnergy project providing water filters to households in rural Kenya.

According to the US-based company, the project cuts down the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere from the burning of unsustainably harvested wood to boil and purify water.

The company has purchased a share of the emissions reductions produced by the project over the next ten years, in a bid to address the projected unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions from its business operations and corporate air travel, a total of 550 short tons.

Curtis engages in various key sustainability initiatives, including buying 100% renewable electricity through renewable energy credits and participating in groups such as the Sustainable Packaging Coalition.

The company took advantage of NativeEnergy's new Help Build model, which provides upfront funding to the project.

NativeEnergy provides carbon offsets, renewable energy credits as well as carbon accounting software.
