Hormel Foods Launches Virtual Reality Platform for Black Label Bacon

Minnesota based Hormel Foods has launched a virtual reality powered platform for customers to explore and purchase Black Label bacon.

Named as ‘The Black Market’, the new platform is said to provide a multisensory bacon experience for consumers.

It enables consumers to purchase bacon thorugh a smart phone that does not require using an application or headset.

Hormel Foods marketing vice president Steve Venenga said: “We’re proud to advance our mission of celebrating the exceptional, pushing bacon forward and bringing better bacon into more homes with new distribution channels and buying experiences.

“The bacon needs of consumers and Hormel Black Label bacon customers are constantly changing, prompting us to create experiences that deliver beyond their expectations.”

According to Hormel Foods, The Black Market platform lets users experience virtual reality by merely opening their website and placing the smartphone in front of their eyes.

Hormel Foods said that it is offering a limited number of custom bacon-scented Google Cardboard, free of cost, on The Black Market to amplify the user’s experience.

The Black Market features four bacon worlds to navigate through – a Dark Woods, a Volcano, a Salty Sea and the Outer Space darkness. A user will have to unlock them before purchasing select varieties of the Hormel Black Label bacon in virtual reality.

Hormel introduced new flavours of Black Label bacon, including Double Smoked bacon, which is available from 31 October. Another flavour called as Low Sodium with Sea Salt bacon will be available from next month.

Hormel Black Label bacons come in different packaging formats like 16oz single packs, 24-oz stack packs and a 9.5oz fully-cooked format.

Desktop users can also buy the Hormel Black Label bacon products without experiencing virtual reality on their website.
