Samsung Armed Trucks with Cameras to Help Drivers Gauge

South Korean electronics major Samsung has armed trucks with cameras in the front side and four screens at the rear to offer a ‘see-through’ experience to help drivers gauge when it is safe to pass.

The company, which has applied for a regulatory go-ahead for the safety trucks, had hit upon the idea in Argentina which witnesses 20 mishap deaths every week due to overtakings on single-lane roads.

The screens, stated to be weatherproof, are capable of giving a clearer view of vehicles coming from the opposite end.

As per the video release by Samsung, the system flaunts a simple interface, with the front camera broadcasting the moving images of the road ahead on the rear screens, making it convenient for the drivers whose vision ahead get eclipsed by the heavy vehicle.

There is also a provision for night-vision mode with a view to averting road accidents in the dark.

However, the viability of the idea on cost front is yet to be tested as it may be inferred that the display boards would entail hefty investment for the owners.

In fact, there are systems conceptualized and devised by carmakers such as, Ford and Volvo, which empower vehicles to exchange inputs as regards location, speed, obstacles and road surface quality.
