Plastipak Packaging Plans to Boost Beverage Bottles Production Output in Alabama

Rigid plastic container manufacturer Plastipak Packaging, a subsidiary of Plastipak Holdings, is planning to invest $10.4m to add two manufacturing lines to its Birmingham area facility in Jefferson County, Alabama, US.

Plastipak Packaging is engaged in designing and manufacturing of rigid plastic containers for the food, beverage, and consumer products industries.

The new expansion plant, which is expected to create at least five new jobs, will complete the existing line which manufactures plastic bottles for the beverage industry.

The facility currently employs 117 people.

Jefferson County Commissioner David Carrington said: “This business expansion project brings additional investment and jobs to Western Jefferson County.”

Statutory tax abatements were approved by the Jefferson County Commission for the project, valued at more than $427,000 over 10 years.

Jefferson County Economic and Industrial Development Authority executive director Ted vonCannon said:  “It’s expansions over the years indicate a strong local workforce and an ideal central location to serve its customers throughout the Southeast.”

In 2015, Plastipak Packaging said it plans to invest $9m to raise output capacity at its manufacturing unit in Pineville, Louisiana, in the US.

The firm said it would add three output lines for polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, products.

The company commenced manufacturing plastic bottles in Birmingham in 2003.

Plastipak Packaging employs a total of 5,700 people in 45 sites in the US, South America and Europe.
