Claim ThatApple Violated Samsung's Patents Has Been Rejected

Apple and Samsung Electronics have held a series of private negotiations about their patent disputes since last summer when Apple notched a victory in one case, according to legal documents and people familiar with the matter.

Samsung Electronics Co. sued Apple in March 2012, accusing the iPhone maker of illegally using three patented technologies related to short message services in smartphones and tablet computers.

Recently, A Seoul court ruled that Apple Inc. didn't violate some of Samsung Electronics's patents, dealing a setback for the South Korean smartphone maker on its home turf. The technology in two of Samsung’s patents could easily be independently developed by others, Judge Shim Woo-yong said, making it unlikely they were copied. He said one patent was not used in the iPad.

Samsung said it was disappointed by the ruling and will decide whether to appeal this decision after a thorough review.
