Volkswagen has unveiled the production version of the new 2017 Golf Alltrack which will go on sale in the fall as a 2017 model.

The vehicle is based on Golf Sportwagen - Volkswagen's Sportwagen models which offer more comfort and sporting driving experience than compact SUVs.

This new version of Golf Alltrack is equipped with all-wheel drive and additional ground clearance for a rugged off-road driving experience.

Volkswagen of America, product marketing and strategy vice president, Joerg Sommer said: "We heard from dealers and customers that they wanted to see a Golf SportWagen with the all-terrain capability that comes from an all-wheel drive system."

"We are excited to introduce the Golf Alltrack to meet the active lifestyle needs of our customers."

The engine powering this car is a turbocharged, direct injected EA888 1.8 liter four cylinder gasoline engine. This engine will be connected to a six speed dual clutch automatic transmission and produces 170hp and 199 lb-ft of torque.

The company says that manual transmission will be available at a later date. The all-wheel drive fitted to the 4MOTION uses Haldex-5 coupling, activated through an electro-hydraulic oil pump. The all-wheel drive system generally provides power to front wheels under normal conditions for better fuel efficiency.

But when the system detects any rear wheel slip, it immediately supplies up to 50% of the power to balance the vehicle. Wheels fitted to the vehicle are 17 inch alloy wheels for regular models and 18 inch alloy wheels for the top model.

The car has an "Off-Road Mode" which provides hill descent control and optimizes traction control for off-road terrain.

Apart from these, the car several safety features such as standard electronic stability control, automatic post-collision braking system, intelligent crash responsesystem, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking, lane assist and front and rear park distance control assist.
