The buildings and the 13,000sqm land area costs €2.1m, excluding taxes. The factory is located in Brasov. One and a half years ago, the company also sold its candy factory in Brasov to supermarket chain Lidl, Romania-insider.com reported.

Mondelez ventured into the Romanian market in early 90s and acquired the Poiana company in Brasov along with its two factories. However, in 2009, the company moved its production lines to Bulgaria after closing one of the Poiana factories.

Recently, the company announced $50m investment in a local production facility to meet surging demand for Cadbury Bournvita, Nigeria's favorite cocoa drink. The investment supports the company's global growth strategy by expanding the availability of regional Power Brands like Cadbury Bournvita in key markets and creating a more efficient supply-chain footprint.

The new Lagos plant is fully automated and replaces an older facility that could not support necessary expansion plans, including the installation of new equipment. In addition to increased capacity, this new plant will enhance the quality of the company's products and improve competitiveness in the Nigerian marketplace by reducing operating costs.

Separately, the company has also collaborated with Cargill to introduce a two-year program in Indonesia, which will be aimed at improving the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and introducing sustainability in farming practices.
