RFI Plans to Provide Electrical and Mechanical Systems for The Treviglio

Infrastructure manager RFI has awarded a EUR 176 million contract to the Consorzio Saturno consortium of Alstom, Ansaldo STS, Balfour Beatty Rail and Sirti to provide electrical and mechanical systems for the Treviglio - Brescia section of the Milano Venezia high speed line.

Being built by Cepav Due as part of RFI’s Alta Velocità/Alta Capacità programme, the project was approved in September 2009; construction was officially launched on May 7 2012. The package includes 39•6 km of high speed route, an 11•7 km link to the existing line and 6•9 km of dedicated tracks into Brescia's main station.

Ansaldo STS will be responsible for around half of the E&M work, valuing its share of the contract at EUR 82 million. This includes the supply and installation of ETCS Level 2 signaling and train control together with interlockings. The company will also design and install the electrical substations and traction power control system, along with air-conditioning and ventilation of the technical buildings.

RFI had already selected Ansaldo STS to supply a new computer based interlocking for Brescia Central station, together with related signaling works for ‘reconfiguration’ of the existing Torino - Padova main line. Forming part of European Corridor D, this route will be augmented by the new line now under construction.
