Fetching The Best Price in The Sale Was a 28 Inch Gaultier Bisque Doll

Fetching the best price in the sale was a 28 inch Gaultier bisque doll that sold for £2,400.

A collection of highly prized toys and dolls fetched thousands of pounds at a Spring Dolls and Toys Auction Sale in Ilkley.

Hartleys auction house saw a total of £67,000 raised from 554 lots featuring antique dolls, teddies, chess sets and toys.

Fetching the best price in the sale was a 28 inch Gaultier bisque doll with Gresland body that brought home £2,400.

Meanwhile, a large Jacques “In Statu Quo” portable chess set in its case found a new home for £580, while an early 20th century papier mache French bulldog sold for £1,150, reports the Ilkley Gazette.

Among other toys featured on the day, a diecast Spot On BP petrol tanker raised £600, while a Princess Elizabeth 4-6-2 locomotive and tender, from Hornby steamed home for £950.

The day was rounded with the sale of a further toy train, the Bassett Lowke electric 4-6-0 LM.S Jubilee Conqueror, that despite needing some TLC, went to a new owner for £1,900.

With this in mind, perhaps it's time to have a rummage through the loft.
