Nestle to Lower Salt Content in Maggi Range

Nestle is planing to revamp its Maggi brand in the next three years to offer tastier and healthier choices for consumers.

The move is part of the new Maggi Simply Good initiative, which includes lowering salt content in the Maggi range, with an average sodium reduction of 10% between now and 2020

Maggi would begin to feature familiar, simple and recognizable ingredients used by most people in their kitchens.

Nestle executive vice president Patrice Bula said: “Home cooking has a positive impact on our lives. The Maggi commitment is to inspire and help people to cook good food with fresh ingredients.

“That is why we are transforming our products using ingredients everyone knows and loves.”

Nestle also aims to add more vegetables and natural flavours extracted from herbs and spices, vegetables, grains and other ingredients which are rich in nutrition.

The company is looking to add at least 300 million portions of fibre-rich grains along with nuts, pulses and seeds, and at least 750 million portions of vegetable portions by 2020 in all its Maggi products sold across the world.

Nestle said that it would also fortify the Maggi product range further with iodine, iron or Vitamin A content. While the number in 2015 was 110 billion servings of fortification, by 2020, the food and beverage giant aims to increase it to 120 billion servings per year.

The new Maggi initiative has been implemented in Central and West Africa and is set to be launched in the rest of the world.

In the Middle East, Nestle has rolled out the new and improved Maggi range in several markets that include a reformulated range of sauce mixes and in Australia, it has rolled out reformulated recipe bases.

In France, Nestle has reformulated the Mélanges Parfaits’ seasonings have been launched while in Germany, it has introduced the reformulated vegetable broth and sauce mixes.
