A Turnkey Laserdyne 795XL System Has Been Delivered to Metal Spinners

A turnkey Laserdyne 795XL system, equipped with BD3Y BeamDirector and an IPG fiber laser, has been delivered to Metal Spinners, Inc. of Malden, MA. Prima Power Laserdyne, manufacturer of multi-axis laser machining systems, made the announcement. This addition is expected to enhance Metal Spinners' existing production capability in terms of quality, efficiency, and competitiveness in the marketplace. Combining proprietary software, laser process-specific sensors, and precision machine tool design, the laser system equipped with fiber laser is capable of maintaining and exceeding the quality requirements for turbine engine component production.

Aerospace Manufacturer Relies on Laser Machining

"This new 6-axis Laserdyne 795XL laser system with the BD3Y BeamDirector, coupled with a building expansion, will increase our part-producing capacity and allow us to provide new fiber laser technology in a laser system with a large work envelope," said Dana Munick, president of Metal Spinners, Inc. "It is our third Laserdyne system and complements our other laser systems that include a 7-axis Laserdyne 780 and a 6-axis Laserdyne 795XS system, both equipped with CO2 lasers."

Difficult-to-Machine Work Made Easy

With over 50 years of service to the aerospace industry, Metal Spinners has recognized Prima Power Laserdyne, with its innovative laser systems, as a valued partner for more than two decades.

Known as an innovator in the fabrication of turbine engine components, Metal Spinners provides its services to many major engine manufacturers including General Electric, Honeywell, Rolls Royce, and Pratt and Whitney. The company's specialty is the fabrication, machining, and assembly of high temperature alloys and other difficult to machine and form alloys. These processes include expanding, spinning, hydroforming, roll-forming, pressing, machining, CNC turning and milling, welding, multi-axis laser cutting, and related engineering services.

The Laserdyne 795XL system can control 6 axes of motion with a 2 m x 1 m x 1 m (80 in. x 40 in. x 40 in.) work envelope and includes Laserdyne's latest controller, the S94P. A CNC control designed exclusively for precision multi-axis laser processing systems, the S94P is the basis for numerous Laserdyne unique hardware and software features that give improved productivity, process control, and higher quality laser-processed parts.

This system also includes the third-generation BeamDirector, referred to as BD3Y, with industry-leading volumetric precision and part access. Its design is based on 30 years of experience producing high accuracy moving beam multi-axis laser systems. By virtue of its compact and robust design, the system also provides unmatched access to parts for 3D and 2D cutting, drilling, and welding.

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to provide this system to Metal Spinners," stated Terry L. VanderWert, president of Prima Power Laserdyne. "The Laserdyne system equipped with a fiber laser represents the most advanced multi-axis laser processing technology for aerospace applications available."
