Mantrose-Haeuser to Acquire Holton Food Products for Expansion Into Bakery Market

Specialty ingredients provider Mantrose-Haeuser has announced plan to acquire Holton Food Products Company, to expand its presence in the bakery market.

Holton Food Products Company is a US-based supplier of food stabilizer and dry egg white products for bakery and prepared food segments.

The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Holton provides dry egg white products, which are used alongside its food stabilizers for small as well as large scale, high-speed production of fillings, cookies, meringue toppings, cakes, pies, other deserts and entrée foods, reported Foodingredientsfirst.com.

Mantrose marketing director Karen Murphy was quoted by the publication as saying: "As Mantrose is an ingredients manufacturer, bringing Holton Foods into our fold is a perfect fit for us to not only expand our business into the bakery industry, but to increase our portfolio of products we now offer to our customers in the Food & Confectionery.

"The Holton management philosophy and corporate culture is synergistic with that of Mantrose. We do not view ourselves as simply ingredient suppliers, but solution providers for our customers. We both provide a high level of technical support and can custom formulate to meet the needs of our customers."

Holton markets its products essentially to large bakeries and food companies to leverage appearance, texture, moisture control, production efficiency, freeze-thaw stability and shelf life.

Mantrose expects the addition of Holton to its portfolio to expand its range of specialty food ingredients and hopes that the move would become a key factor in its entry into the bakery market, reported Foodingredientsfirst.com.

Holton's sons Ross, John, and David Holton will continue to operate the family-run business even after the acquisition is completed.

The latest acquisition by Mantrose comes just four months after it announced the invention of a food-grade formula NatureSeal for Guacamole & Avocado, which is intended to help preserve the freshness, the green colour and appetizing nature of the fruits for up to four hours at room temperature and up to three days when refrigerated, reported Cleveland.com.

Mantrose-Haeuser is a subsidiary of RPM International Specialty Products Group. RPM acquired the business in 1992. Mantrose specializes in the enhancement of baked goods, fried foods, savory meat glazes, chocolate enrobed bars and biscuits, edible inks, seeds, nuts and snack food products.

RPM chairman and CEO Frank C. Sullivan was quoted by Cleveland.com as saying: "Holton, with its high degree of expertise in food stabilizers, is a good strategic fit with our subsidiary Mantrose-Haeuser.

"The acquisition expands Mantrose's range of specialty food ingredients and provides a key entry into the bakery market. We expect to grow Holton internationally by leveraging its products across the Mantrose-Haeuser distribution network."
