Messring and Th Ingolstadt to Test for Systems for an Active Safety Device

German crash-test facility maker Messring has joined hands with TH Ingolstadt University to test for systems to be put in place for an active safety device capable of averting accident or ameliorate the severity of collisions.

The duo is currently testing the systems' potentiality about simulating dangerous situations.

The initiative comes after German Road Safety Council (DVR) held drivers, most of them driving a passenger car, guilty of 34,000 road mishaps involving vehicles and pedestrians every year.

The project entitled TargETS (Target Development for Testing of Integrated Safety Systems), proposal of which was okayed by Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, was set in motion in October 2013.

Setting new yardsticks in test systems, efforts are on to develop a test system capable of coping with the complexity related to early recognition and categorization of road users unconditionally. This is done with the help of assistance systems in the auto sector.

Messring manager of sales and application Wolfgang Rohleder said, "Our motto is 'action instead of reaction.' With TargETS, we demonstrate that MESSRING is also an innovative partner in research. We'd like to get more involved in this area in the future too."

There are two components to the project - a pedestrian dummy and an innovative motion system, coordination of which is assessed via software program.

Besides, Messring is developing a motion system called '6D Target Mover' that seeks to moves the pedestrian dummy without confounding the assistance systems drawn from six degrees of freedom, which means three translational and three rotatory movements in space.
