IGZO:This New Technology Promises to Make Your Tablet Run a Bit More Smoothly

IGZO: the name doesn't exactly roll off your tongue, but this new technology promises to make your tablet run a bit more smoothly. IGZO is a new technology from Sharp, and it's also an acronym for indium, gallium, zinc, and oxide—a new compound that will be used to replace the silicon materials traditionally used in thin-film transistors. IZGO will be used in TV, smart phone, and tablet displays.

What does IGZO mean for tablet users? According to Sharp, it will provide super-high resolution and clarity in displays, resulting in an image up to four times better than high definition. It's also ultra-low power, and Sharp says that will lead to tablet battery life that's two to three times better than what's currently available. Finally, it's supposed to minimize noise on touchscreens, leading to better, more accurate touch response.

No news on when IGZO displays will come to products here in the U.S., but Sharp is already offering it in Asian markets.
