Food ingredients company Corbion has announced that it would invest in its plant at Dolton, Illinois, to expand production of emulsifiers used in sweet goods.
Corbion, a major North American company in emulsifiers for bread, plans to produce propylene glycol monoesters emulsifiers (PGME)used in sweet goods, bakery mixes and other applications.
The company expects to sell PGME products in the second quarter of 2017.
Corbion emulsifiers global product manager Jim Robertson said: "The addition of PGME to the portfolio means Corbion will possess all the necessary building blocks to produce a sweet goods portfolio that matches the breadth of solutions we currently offer to the bread market segment."
The latest investment follows its significant infusion of funds in its Grandview, MO plant in 2015.
It allowed Corbion to develop and commercialize its Ensemble non-PHO emulsifier portfolio the FDA's decision to rescind GRAS status on partially hydrogenated oil.
In November last year, it launched a new emulsifier solution which claimed to remove partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs). The new line named Ensemble was intended to provide drop-in ease, volume and increased tenderness to foods.
Robertson said: "By adding PGME solutions for sweet goods and offering drop-in non-PHO replacements, Corbion minimizes challenges for our customers and makes it easier for them to provide the delicious foods their consumers demand."
In March, Corbion selected US-based food ingredients distributor Batory Foods as the authorised distributor for its products which includes lactic acid, lactic acid derivatives and lactides.
Corbion products are used for preservation, flavor enhancement, pH regulation and mineral fortification in meat and poultry, dairy, beverage, confectionery, nutritional foods, fruits and vegetables.
