The September Revenue Helped Swell The Company's Revenue for The Third Quarter

Taipei,Oct.17,2012(CENS)--MediaTek Inc.'s consolidated revenue of NT$11 billion(US$366 million at US$1:NT$30)for September hit a 29-month high,in line with expectations that the company would have more than NT$10 billion(US$333 million)in the month.

The September revenue helped swell the company's revenue for the third quarter to NT$29.4 billion(US$982 million),increasing 25.73%from the second quarter and higher than the company's planned 13-18%growth.

In the Jan.-Sept.period this year, the company raked in total consolidated revenue of NT$72.5 billion(US$2.4 billion),gaining 12.97%from the same period of last year.

Although the fourth quarter is normally a low season for the electronics industry, the company expected new functionalities in smartphone chips, currently the company's primary revenue earner, would make the company's sales for the fourth quarter brighter than in past years.

Although some industry executives estimated the company would revise upward projections for the fourth quarter, the company's chief finance officer,D.W.Gu,said the company has no plan to hike its business projections for the time being.

The company estimated it would earn NT$3.3-4.04 per share in the third quarter of the year.Industry executives ascribed the hefty earnings mostly to the company's rollout of a duo-core chipset for 3G smartphones, dubbed as MT6657.The chip is not only popular in mainland China, where the company is already the No.1 supplier of mobile phone chips, but also built into Sharp's phones.

In the quarter, the company shipped more smarphone chips than feature-phone chips.Besides, the company had strong sales of chips for digital TVs,wireless network connectivity equipment, and Blu-ray players.

Some industry executives estimated the company would ship as many smartphone chips in the fourth quarter as it did in the third quarter whereas some estimated a 50%increase this quarter.

Credit Suisse put MediaTek's shipment of smartphone chips at 110 million units for this year alone, with 42 million chips set for this quarter and 38.5 million chips estimated for last quarter.MediaTek itself set the 2012 shipment target at 95 million chips.
