Hyundai and Rhys Millen Try Defend Their 2012 Title

Hyundai and Rhys Millen to Defend 2012 Pikes Peak Hill Climb Title

Hyundai and Rhys Millen Racing have announced they will partner up again for the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in an attempt to defend their 2012 title.

Hyundai and experienced US team Rhys Millen Racing will field two cars in the internationally renowned June event, one for Rhys in the unlimited class and one for a yet to be named driver in the time attack 2WD class.

Millen will pilot an all-new, purpose-built rear-drive racecar, while the second driver will get behind the wheel of the production-based Hyundai Genesis Coupe that set last year’s all-time record to the peak (9:46.164).

Rhys Millen Racing will produce the new ultra-lightweight racecar using engine components from Hyundai’s production-based Lambda engine family. The powertrain is expected to develop more than 671kW and 1083Nm of torque using production components including the block, cylinder heads, bearings and other accessories.

The racecar chassis will be wrapped in a production-based Genesis Coupe-like silhouette for its entry in the unlimited class.

The world-record-setting Genesis Coupe is the exact same coupe that Millen drove in the Formula Drift series.

The 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb commences on June 30.
