Del Monte Recalls Fresh Cut Fruit Containing Red Apples Issued with Listeria Monocytogenes

Del Monte Fresh Produce is voluntarily recalling fresh cut fruit containing Gala red apples grown in Pennsylvania as these apples have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recalled products include nearly 3,051 consumer packages containing fresh cut red apples with Best If Enjoyed By dates of 3 December, 6 December, 7 December and 8 December 2014.

These products were distributed to various retailers including Giant Eagle, Amazon Fresh, Sunoco, Peter's Fruit, Wegmans, Sheetz and 7-Eleven in a few States in North East US.

The recall has been initiated after a random test by the Division of Food Safety of the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

No illnesses have been reported associated with the recall.

Consumption of food contaminated with listeria may cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.

Customers who have bought the recalled products are advised to dispose them.
