The expansion is said to form a part of the company's €180m investment programme at its Irish operations in Macroom and Wexford.

To employ 50 new people, the expansion at the Wexford facility saw around €26m in investment.

Danone expects its workforce to increase from 180 to more than 400 people in Ireland by the end of the year.

Danone Nutricia Early Life Nutrition Ireland managing director Donal Courtney said: "Locating our state of the art new generation packaging line in Wexford reinforces the strategic nature of the Irish based operations."

The company has been investing in its operations over the past four years in order to ramp up its capacity to cater to the increasing demand for infant and toddler milk in Europe and Asia.

Danone Ireland Operations director Donal Dennehy said: "Danone is an integral part of the agricultural and farming community and are proud members of Bord Bia's Origin Green programme."
