Come Back 276 Leaf Electric Vehicles in North America

Japanese automaker Nissan Motor has recalled 276 units of its Leaf electric vehicle in North America due to certain missing spot welds in the cars.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), some 2014 Nissan Leaf electric are missing spot welds, which are critical for the car's structure and their absence could affect the crashworthiness of the electric hatchback.

All the recalled vehicles were built from 28 February to 12 March 2014, among which 211 units were sold in the US and about 65 were delivered across Canada.

The vehicles are said to miss welds, which are located on each side of the motor just above the sway bar ends.

In the documents filed with NHTSA Nissan said that the affected vehicles will be inspected and if the welds are missing, the company will replace the customer's vehicle with a new one at no additional cost.

"It is anticipated that only a handful of retailed vehicles are affected by the weld issue and require vehicle replacement," Nissan added.
