Swedish car maker Volvo Cars is planning to temporarily stop production at the Torslanda plant from 29 October to 2 November 2012.
The company has decided to temporarily stop production at Torslanda plant due to the continued decline of European automotive market.
Starting from 1 October 2012, Volvo Cars has reduced the production pace at the Torslanda plant, from 57 cars an hour to 50 cars.
During the suspension period, the 3,300 employees working at Torslanda plant will be on leave with pay through a combination of utilising time banks and leave of absence.
Volvo Cars CFO and acting president & CEO Jan Gurander said Europe is the main market for the company and the continued recession is naturally affecting the demand for its cars.
"Against this background, it is essential for us to continue to use the built-in flexibility we have within our manufacturing system," Gurander said.
Volvo Cars also said that there are no plans for changes to the permanent work force at the Torslanda plant.
