HJ Heinz Has Recalled Four Batches of Infant Food in Eastern China

US-based food company HJ Heinz has recalled four batches of infant food in eastern China, citing the presence of excessive amounts of lead.

The move came in the wake of discovery of excessive lead in Heinz AD Calcium Hi-Protein Cereal by food safety regulators in eastern Zhejiang province.

According to the Zhejiang Food and Drug Administration, around 1,472 boxes of the infant food are affected by the recall.

The company has also announced plans to destroy the remaining 153 boxes of the product that are sealed in a warehouse in the southern city of Guangzhou.

Zhejiang regulatory agency has also advised the company to compensate its customers.

Heinz announced that no other baby food products are affected by the recall after an extensive testing.

Earlier in 2013, Fonterra recalled infant milk formula and sports drinks in nine countries including China, after it discovered the presence of harmful bacteria in one of its products, Reuters reported.
