LED packaging service provider Everlight Electronics is not considering a merger with Taiwan-based Edison Opto in order to expand LED packaging capacity, according to Everlight chairman Robert Yeh.
News recently spread in the market stating Everlight has plans to merge with Edison Opto, which specializes in LED packaging for lighting applications, to compete with China-based fellow providers.
Yeh, however, commented at a recent talk in Taiwan that Everlight is pushing expansion of its own facilities, with new fabs expected to go into mass production in 2015, and that the company is more concerned with expanding its own capacity.
Yeh also emphasized that any future facilities the company plans to establish will be done so in Taiwan despite many makers shifting production to Vietnam or China.
Sources at the company meanwhile noted the two makers have in fact discussed a possible merger in the past but such plans have since faded over concern there would be limited benefit from the move.
