Opel Is Planning to Pay EUR130m in Engine and Component Production Plant in Germany

German automobile manufacturer Opel is set to invest EUR130m in its engine and component production plant in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

This investment will be used for engine manufacturing, bodywork components and seat manufacture, chassis components building and the press shop.

The amount will be used for the construction of bodywork components and front seat structures for the next generation Opel Astra, along with axles and bodywork components for the next generation Opel Insignia. The investment will also be spent on engine manufacturing.

The plant will also produce the company's Euro-6-generation of the 2.0 liter family of diesel engines by October 2013. The engine will feature high performance, low consumption and noise attenuation as well as reduced exhaust emissions, the company said.

Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann said that Kaiserslautern delivers high tech products to the company's automobile production plants which are of the highest quality.

"In this way, the plant makes a significant contribution to the success of our automobiles and to our product offensive which will secure the launch of 23 new models and 13 new power units over the course of the coming years," Neumann added.

The West Palatinate plant manufactures components and engines for the Opel models Adam, Astra, Corsa, Meriva, Zafira und Insignia. It has produced over nine million engines since its launch.
