The electric carmaker also plans to launch 14 new models in the continent this year.

Nissan will boost production in Spain and Russia. It will start the production of its all-electric e-NV200 in Barcelona, Spain. The company will unveil this light commercial vehicle at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

It has also commenced the production of the all-new NT500 light truck at its Avila plant in Spain and will produce all-new C-segment hatchback along with a new One Ton pick-up at Barcelona plant.

In Russia, the company will introduce its Datsun brand with two new models and will boost the production of its Almera at Togliatti plant.

On the strength of its refreshed model line-up, Nissan now employs more than 50,000 people in its operations and dealer body across Europe.

The automaker will introduce round-the-clock production at its Sunderland plant in the UK. The plant produces Qashqai, Juke, Note and LEAF along with battery cells for both Nissan LEAF and e-NV200.

Nissan Motor executive vice president Andy Palmer said that with input from Nissan Technical Center Europe and design from Nissan Design Europe, they are building products that lead their segments and technology and desirability.

"Our top-selling models backed by a phalanx of significant new launches will ensure that Nissan's European production will reach unprecedented heights in 2014 and keep us on target to reach our goal of becoming Europe's number one Asian brand in 2016," Palmer added.
